  • Establish long-term relationships and life goals with your partner
  • Talk about sexual expectations, desires, and other related concerns

  • Learn how to better communicate with your partner about boundaries, finances, and family dynamics

Why not make your relationship all it can be? Premarital counseling can take your relationship from great to incredible and be a positive experience.

How It Works: The Prepare Enrich Framework

At Destination Therapy in Houston, we use the Prepare Enrich framework for strengthening relationships. Using this framework:

  1. You and your partner will both take an online assessment that was developed by relationship experts. The results of this will show your relationships’ strengths, growth areas, and potential challenges.
  2. During sessions with your premarital counselor, you’ll have a chance to review the findings and learn new skills. You may learn new communication techniques, conflict resolution skills, and other relationship-enhancing skills. Every major aspect of a healthy relationship will be covered, from sex and intimacy to finances and parenting.
  3. Towards the end of your premarital counseling, you’ll set goals for your relationship with your therapist. When the time comes, you can choose to leave therapy.

Don’t worry though. If a speed bump comes up at any point in your relationship, you now have a relationship therapist you’re familiar with. At Destination Therapy, we prioritize past clients so you can stay on track in your relationship.

Premarital Counseling FAQ

Premarital counseling is for couples dating and thinking about marriage. These couples want deeper insights and tools to strengthen their relationship for the long haul. Marital counseling is for married couples and is usually focused on gaining support, healing ruptures or disconnection, and enlivening their relationship. The Prepare Enrich framework used at Destination Therapy can help in both cases.

Premarital counseling is important if you and your partner want to identify your core beliefs (about yourselves and relationships more broadly), talk about roles and expectations, plan for the future, communicate about financial matters, understand each other better, iron out past issues, and discuss how your lives are about to become merged in new ways as a married couple.

Premarital counseling is phenomenal for couples who want to start strong in marriage. There are a few popular approaches for premarital counseling, including the Gottman Method and the Prepare Enrich framework. If you want an effective way to strengthen your relationship and set you and your partner up for a thriving marriage that lasts, try premarital counseling.

Prepare Enrich is an online couples assessment that is customized and offers insight into your relationship. The assessment will show you areas of strength, growth, and potential challenges. It’s widely used in the US and can be used for marriage counseling, marriage growth, and couples who want to deepen their bond and understanding in their relationship, or who are approaching new chapters such as engagement and marriage. If you’ve wanted to find a Prepare Enrich facilitator, Destination Therapy in Houston has you covered.
