Houston couples come to us all the time for couples counseling. And there are plenty of reasons. As professional couples counselors in Houston, we help you:

And more.

You Deserve to Feel Safe, Loving Connection

Love starts out with a rush of excitement and energy. You can’t stop thinking about your partner. You want to be with them night and day. When you’re not with them you want to be on the phone with them. And you can’t imagine your future without them.

Then, after the first few years (sometimes less) have passed, reality sets in.

They might not be the person that you thought they were. You’re starting to notice areas of disagreement or annoyance. Why do they laugh like that? How come they never help with the chores? And who doesn’t love ramen!?

People come with different beliefs about important matters like parenting, finances, sex, religion, gender roles and more. When two people with different firmly held beliefs try to make love last and grow, it can be very hard and there’s no shame in seeking out support to help you succeed.

So, couples therapy is here to help you and your partner understand each other on a deep level. At Destination Therapy, we use Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy to help you and your partner:

Grow Old Together
Get Couples Counseling in Houston

If you want to strengthen your love and grow old together, we can help. At Destination Therapy, it’s our passion to help couples survive tough times and come out stronger than ever before.

Here’s what our new client process looks like for couples therapy:

  1. You schedule a free consultation video or phone call by clicking the button below.
  2. Our admin team will confirm your appointment and send over a short questionnaire for you and your partner to fill out ahead of time. This will give your couples therapist an idea of where you are both at and what support you are looking for.
  3. You meet with your couples therapist at the scheduled time for a quick introductory call. This is an opportunity for you all to get to know each other, talk about goals, and allow all parties to assess if it’s a good fit during the consultation.
  4. Assuming both parties would like to move forward together, we’ll schedule the first intake session and follow up with regular couples therapy sessions, either weekly or biweekly.

Sessions continue as long as needed, with most couples seeing improvements after 4 sessions and continuing couples therapy for 3-6 months. The consultation video call is free and lasts about 15 minutes.

For 50-minute sessions, our rates range from $150, $170 to $180 depending on the clinician.

For 80-minute sessions, our rate starts at $240.

In some cases, we recommend individual therapy for each partner to deal with issues such as anger or self-esteem. This is intended to help the work you’ll do in couples therapy.

Couples Counseling is hard work, but it’s worth it. You, your partner, and your relationship deserve it. Fill out the form below and let’s get started.

Couples Counseling FAQ

Couples counseling is therapy focused on two partners in a romantic relationship. This can be two individuals who are married or dating, and can be a heterosexual or a homosexual pair. We also work with non-traditional couples, so just ask if you have a special concern.

Couples counseling helps partners learn to understand each other better, argue less yet more effectively when they do, make progress on difficult topics such as parenting, finances, and vacations, and develop healthy individuality as a pillar for romantic love.

Counseling is used as a synonym of therapy in most contexts. At Destination Therapy, we use the terms interchangeably. The important thing to know is that you’ll get high quality mental health care whether we describe it as counseling or therapy.

According to the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, 97% of survey respondents said they received the help they needed from couples therapy. Couples counseling can work if both partners are willing to put in the effort required to heal, grow, and change.

A couples counselor can help you strengthen your bond through teaching you and your partner healthy relationship skills, new ways to understand each other, and eliminating unhealthy behavior. Couples counseling is also helpful for addressing betrayal, exploring each partner’s attachment style, and focusing on the substance of disagreements for more complete resolution.
