Kedian Dixon, LMHC, LPC
I am a licensed psychotherapist born in California, raised in Massachusetts, and now I get to call Houston Texas my home. At Destination Therapy, I offer individual therapy and couples counseling both in person here at our Houston practice or online via tele-health for clients residing in Texas or Massachusetts.
After obtaining my graduate degree from Cambridge College, I knew that I was called to be a therapist. I love holding space for my clients and supporting them through life’s challenges, with it’s many highs and lows.
My experience has prepared me to assist clients who are navigating relationship issues and challenging family dynamics, major life transitions, boundary setting and emotional trauma. I often help clients better understand their symptoms such as low mood, anxiety or “coping” with alcohol use, and support them in building healthy and effective coping skills that can better serve them in living the life they envision for themselves. I provide person-centered care with an emphasis on a holistic approach.
A little more about me.
As someone who navigates the world through the lens of a woman of color and grew up in a Caribbean household, I understand that being culturally informed is an important aspect of the therapeutic process. It’s important to me to recognize each individual’s unique journey and experiences. I recognize and appreciate each of my clients’ beliefs, customs, and values in order to engage with them without judgment and try to remain curious and open throughout our work together to better understand the world through their eyes.
I constantly strive to ensure that my clients feel safe with me, therefore providing culturally affirming care that celebrates all intersectional identities is a foundation of my work. This assists me in supporting my clients move towards an improved outlook on life and motivation for positive change. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to build and foster meaningful relationships, and that the relationship we build together can serve as a great example of this. If you decide to work with me, I will make every effort to create a safe space for you to explore your inner world with me and offer you the opportunity to address your past experience and current challenges to move towards healing in order to improve your overall functioning and quality of life.
I have been trained in a range of therapeutic disciplines and work collaboratively with my clients to build a treatment plan that is tailored to their individual needs. My work is grounded in being Humanistic and Person-Centered, which means that you are my priority and building a strong foundation for our therapeutic relationship is paramount to me.
